Shot List number 2....

1. Plain shot of house: showing the location, no music at this point
2. The camera will slowly zoom in, and sweep around to the back door, and enter
3. When entering the house the speed will be fast, zooming around the house, passing props such as cigarette packets, drink cans, old boots on stairs etc. Faint music will start
4. The camera will go up the stairs and into the main characters room to show her sitting on the floor smoking in dim light. The mood of the music changes
5. The shot will sweep over her head and look down on the photos as she drops them one by one on the floor.

6. Maybe to end we could rewind the footage.....

First ideas Rough Cut!

This rough cut is very poor, but we only had about 5 secs to upload it as we had to upload out images again!
We have decided to develope on this idea any way.....

New Idea...

Possible new idea;
 Starting with a shot of the house.
Then there will be a shot of the front door.
The camera will then enter the house && give a guided tour of the house so we can see what sort of lifestyle the character/s lead. This will be made as if its fast forwarding. The camera will then stop as it reaches the character. There will be a shot of the character. There will be a voice over telling us a bit about the character. The camera will then go over the characters head as she drops photos. There will still be a voice over  && this will then help introduce other characters (friends). Photos will fall on top of one another.
Photos will show bits of her life and her friends. After this beginning it would rewind to before and show what has happened leading up to this point....

Other photograph ideas for beginnning

We have been thinking about the photographs of our characters in the beginning and are thinking maybe instead of the whole camera clicky noise we'll just throw the photos down on top of each other. So. We'll be looking through our own photos of our friends and if they don't really work then we'll take new ones.

filming

For filming, maybe go with both ideas i.e the people and the objects.

Thinking maybe to introduce the characters with either very quick filmed shots of each person we use, or just use photographs, if anyone's seen the old old Bonnie and Clyde movie then kinda like that. Can't find it on youtube but photographs appear on the screen one by one with a sort of camera clicky noise - could do that and then film the streets after we've introduced the characters with the photos.

Also the titles would probably look good/fit well if they were just black, and sort of grainy eg the titles for 'This is England' -

and more and more

so our footage is basically an introduction to how a group of people became the group of people that they are now - we'll most likely choose for them to be addicts of some sort, troubled at least, and working class.

1. we don't have people of the right age really to begin there so the opening could be all about a small phase of scenes from when they were younger (using our friends as the characters).

2. we may not really need any people - just pictures of typical Britishness, flat caps, old boots etc.

Don't really know how to inroduce this title idea so i'll just jump straight into it - A.A Milne with his adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin namely the book 'When We Were Very Young' - contradiction of the innocence of the cartoon character/unstable lives of our characters. But using a more restricted speech code to portray our particular charcters better, so changing it to 'When We Was Very Young'.

A different idea if we're able to use already made soundtracks, not sure if we are but if so then using an instrumental piece of 'On the Sunny Side of the Street', making the title 'The slummy side of the street' or something kinda like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTN8TV embedding doesn't work on my little disabled computer

Other soundtrack ideas, again if we're allowed to use them at all, The Pogues - And the band Played Waltzing Matilda (or Fairytale of New York? but maybe too christmasy, maybe not) (OR dirty old town, the pogues are just too good. We're proly not even allowed to use soundtracks are we.)

or Blur - Parklife.

aparently computer likes these ones better.

Bye.

IDEAS

We have chosen to film our friends in college - not necessarily to have them act but just to follow them with a camera and record their daily routines, quirky habits etc.

There will be a voiceover for most of the opening sequence, besides a few parts where we may choose to use the voices of the people we have filmed. The voiceover idea was influenced by the film Trainspotting -

We've chosen to use a voiceover because we have noticed that a lot of the British social realist dramas include people that are older whereas our friends are obviously 16-18, so we'll begin with the narrator telling us that this is how it all began.

change of plans

We are changing our minds about whether to do a teenage romantic comedy - we feel it will be hard to make it funny.

We have chosen to do a British Realist Drama, mainly because we have eliminated all the others - we haven't spoken to the third member of our group yet.

Locations we could film in -
Houses
Town
College

Conventions -
working class
unemployed
drugs
troubled
crime
edge of society
real life situations
uncommon to be stylized or exaggerated
relationships
reality
Filming not very bright - quite dreary - depicts real life

I am Legend Opening Analysis

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EgxgofbO0NA

*Silent at the beginning except rainforest sound/birds/wildlife
*Wide shots of empty city =slow and still shots of buildings, landscape
*Sky view/ aeroplane view =city looks small and empty
*Abandoned cars
*Shot of gun when introducing lead character
*His view looking out of the window
*Sound of car breaking through the silence
*Dog is like a person =head out of window, Smith asks him what he can see
*Shot of deer (jumps over car) =fast, can't quite see what it is at first
*Unstill camera shots =movement, realistic
*Gun out of window =hunter
*Car looks like a preditor/animal in the wild
*Can't get through because of lots of queued cars =quick attempt to escape? Where is everyone? Why have the cars stopped like that?
*Will Smith looks emotional/sad =because the deer got away or sad memories??

In the opening of the film 'I am Legend' it begins with a slow sweep around a deserted New York. It then introduces Will Smith as the leading character when he breaks into the scene in a car, armed and sitting next to his dog. In the opening Will SMith is hunting deer. This is strange because you wouldnt see wild animals roaming the streets of New York! The opening ends when the deer escape down a road blocked with vehicles. The atmosphere, location and style of the opening shows that the film is going to be a horror. Will Smith is the only 'human' character in the opening which is important because you know/see that he maybe the only human left. The dog in the scene is portrayed as a friend to Will Smith, almost like a person.

At the begining of this opening there is silence apart from a strange sound of wild life. I think this is very effective because it quickly arises questions and makes the viewer feel uneasy because its not normal and you want to know whats going on. The silence is broken with the sound of a fast car. This is very effective because it shows how empty and silent New York is and it makes you more aware of the car. When the deer begin running one jumps over the car and there is a quick loud squeal which starts the chase as the sound of the engine gets louder.

The camera work fits in really well with the mood of the opening. The shots are wide and slow showing the abandoned cars and buildings. It creates more tension and empthasises the fact that the city is diserted. There is a over head shot of the buildings which makes you realise how small the buildings are from above and that everywhere is empty so theres no help. The camera work works really well with the eeire sound of the wild life, it makes you wonder what has happened or is going on. I really like the still shots of the car and the deer approaching and passing by, this makes it more exciting and shows how fast they are going. This also makes the car look like a real preditor in the wild, and shots of Will Smith aiming his gun out of the window makes him look like a hunter. At the end of the opening the car swerves to a hult at a queue of cars. There is then a point of view shot as the deer escape. This shows emotion on Smith's face, is it sadness?
Is he annoyed because the deer get away or do the abandoned cars bring back memories? The shots are also shakey as if hand held which makes it more realistic.

When introducing the main character in the car, you first see his gun this shows he needs protection or is a hunter. He is wearing casual and action clothing which shows he is constanly on the move. The fast movement of the deer makes you unsure at first of what they are which makes you want to watch more.

What lies beneath opening

MACRO
Characters;
One female is introduced at the beginning of the film. The film starts with one main character bathing. This opening prepares you for what’s going to happen. The opening begins with the woman sitting up in the bath suddenly as she gasps for breathe. Straight away the audience is hooked and wanting to find out why she is struggling to breathe. As she gets out of the bath and turns on the hair dryer, again there is a sudden and unexpected noise as the hair dryer sparks.
MICRO
Mise en Scene;
Woman, bath, steamed up mirror, hair dryer, towel on the floor, bin, sink, stool and dressing table, shelves, switch on the wall where the hair dryer is plugged into.
Sound;
There isn’t a great deal of sound throughout the beginning. There is the noise of the water, the woman gasping for air, hairdryer. After this comes the noise of the hair dryer. There is no background music just the sounds of what the woman is doing.
Editing/Camera;
There are many close up shots of the woman to help express her feelings. There is also a long shot of the bath so we can see what she is doing and how she is feeling. There is slow editing. The camera slowly, from a long shot zooms in on the character.

The Others

Labels: ,

Mean Girls

Mean girls is an example of a typical American teenage romantic comedy. It have the stereotypical students e.g. goths, bitches, nerds etc

What Lies beneath

What lies beneath is a good example of a thriller with a strong female lead. It begins slow and spooky which builds the tension and then makes you jump as she sits up suddenly out of the bath. Her heavy breathing makes you wonder what is going on has happened. And also when she gets a electric shock it makes you jump because you are expecting something to happen as the mood is calm and unsure. When she is looking in the mirror it also builds tension.

Angus, Thongs and perfecct snogging

Angus, thongs and perfect snogging is a good example of a modern teenage romantic comedy. You have your typical main character who is a loser and whats to become popular. Straight away you can see this in the opening when everyone laughs at her costume.
